The Cathedral of St. Duje is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Duje. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius is the oldest cathedral in the world.
On the intersection of two main roads, cardo and decumanus, in Diocletian’s Palace dating from 4th century, there is a monumental court Peristil from which the only access to Cathedral of St. Duje is to the east. Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
